I was going to make lipstick, following a recipe using homemade beet root powder as a way to colour it, but I ended up with lip balm with little bits in it. A regular kitchen machine doesn’t create very fine powder. I read that all veggies are water soluble, and this doesn’t mix well with the oily base for lipstick. So don’t follow the recipes using veggie powder for lipstick!
I did however like the base for the lipstick, which is essentially lipbalm. It works great and tastes amazing, you can EAT it! I’ll give you that recipe and get back to you on the right way to colour it.
-1 teaspoon cacao butter. You can buy this at De Tuinen, Ecoplaza, and most wholefoodshops. It’s expensive but you’ll use so little of it, this is the cheapest lipbalm ever..and you can use cacao butter for tons of other things, both for food and skin.
-1 teaspoon coconut oil
And just eat the beetroot…
Melt the cacao butter in a glass jar without a lid in a small pot of simmering (not boiling) water.
Add the coconut oil. Store it in for example an old box for eye contacts. Let it solidify in the fridge. Lick off all the pots and pans. It tastes really good, a bit like chocolate!
If you keep it outside the fridge it will melt depending on the temperature, but it works just as well. Enjoy!
